Pictures galore! (Knife Edition)

I have a habit of taking pictures of almost all my EDC gear (especially knives). So here are the pictures I've accumulated over the years!
Cutting a waterbottle with a Spyderco Endura 4

The Capricorn Pocket Hook with a Leatherman Style PS and Quantum DD
One of my favorite pictures. We threw a water balloon up from underneath and shot.

Spyderco Navaja Review!

The Spyderco Navaja is a large knife made out of S30V. This Taichung-produced knife is unique for it's "carracca" mechanism, which makes a clicky noise as the knife is open. The knife, designed by Ed Schempp, is a modern interpretation of a traditional spanish knife. More after the jump!

How to Make a Knife

Here's a few write-ups I did awhile back on knifemaking. The first one is on how to make a fixed blade knife out of 1084 steel - included heat treating. The second one is on how to make a liner lock knife and focuses more on designing and fitting a folding knife.

Here's the one to the fixed blade knife: http://www.instructables.com/id/Knife-Making/

And the one for the liner lock: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-liner-lock-folding-knife/

Goodluck and let me know if you need help on cutting the blanks, filing bevels, heat treating or quenching 1084 steel, filing lock faces, pinning the knife, or more!

Capricorn Progress: Anodization Tests!

So we just tested electrically anodizing titanium, and we are very excited to show the results!!

We managed to create quite a spectrum of colors. From top to bottom, there's a very very light blue, then a cyan blue, then a darker blue, purple, orange, gold, very light gold (just the slightest coloring after the gold), and then plain titanium. Most likely, we are going to offer the dark blue, purple, and gold as options for the actual production run.

Pilot Decimo!

The Pilot Decimo is an offshoot of the popular Pilot Vanishing Point fountain pen. The Vanishing point and Decimo are very similar - both being one of the rare, retractable "clicky" fountain pens on the market.

Seiko 2nd Generation Monster

The Seiko Monster is an automatic (springs and gears only!) watch that is made for diving up to 200m deep. It retails for around $200. The main upgrade to the second generation monster is the 4R36 movement. This allows both hacking (stopping the second hand's movement when changing time) and winding (turning the crown to charge the watch.) Mainly pictures for this one, but more after the jump!

Attempting to Kickstart a project! Please help!

Price? $20 Shipped.

This is my new project. It's the Capricorn Pocket Hook, and I honestly believe it can be a great addition to one's EDC. I did not set out with the goal of selling this design. Instead, I created this design out of G10 and then realized I wanted it in titanium. But obviously, one waterjetted piece is too expensive. So I decided this was a design worth sharing, and here it is today (and of course, I'm making a piece for myself too!)

This project is about to happen. As of now, the prototypes are being created by the waterjetting service. After some quick testing, I will anodize a few pieces, take pictures and a video and finalize the Kickstarter page. If all goes well, this will be up by the first week of July. The Damascus Spydercos

The college I'm attending only allows knives under 3". As such, I've been shifting my collection towards smaller, classier knives and I think these two spydercos fit that goal. The Spyderco Caly 3, Carbon Fiber scales and Damascus blade, as well as the Spyderco Delica 4, Titanium scales and Damascus blade.

EDC Update! (It's about time)

School, finals, personal life... stuff has kind of gotten in the way. But here's a quick update on my EDC.

Same pair of sunglasses, bracelet and necklace. New things on my keychain, finally got a smartphone, and a new wallet, with lockpicks. Watch has been changed out to a Seiko 2nd Gen Monster, and I have a couple new knives. After this summer, I'll be moving to college in Illinois, so I've been changing my EDC to fit that (no knives over 3" :(  ). Got a new pilot decimo. Clicky fountain pen = faster notes? I don't even know if I'll be taking notes with pen and paper, but just in case. (Any excuse for a new pen right?)

So just a quick update - I'll be posting up more in-depth mini-reviews of my carry over the next few days.
